Joachim Seipelt is a biotech expert. He gained industrial experience in research at companies such as Boehringer Ingelheim and academic experience at the Medical University Vienna as an independent group leader. He was co-founder and vice president of AVIR Green Hills Biotechnology from 2002-2012, where he was in charge of third-party funded projects and business development. In total, he was involved in the coordination of 31 successful grant applications at local and international funding agencies (European Commission, Austrian Research Promotion Agency, National Institute of Health USA, the Technology Agency of the City of Vienna, Austrian Wirtschaftsservice), and other funding sources. Dr. Seipelt was project manager for projects funded by the European Commission (two STREP projects and one Integrated Project) with a grant volume of € 13,2 Mio, involving 12 partner institutions across Europe. On the business development side, Dr. Seipelt was involved in licensing activities that resulted in the formation of a spin-off Onepharm GmbH Vienna (2005), a license agreement to a major pharma company (2009), and a license agreement to a Chinese partner (2012).
From 2013-2017, he was Head of the Business Entrepreneurship I Intellectual Property I Seedfinancing at the Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws), Austria’s funding bank. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy, the business unit provides a variety of funding and coaching programs to foster entrepreneurship, to finance start-up foundation, and to enable technology transfer and innovation in a variety of sectors. Dr. Seipelt was responsible for an annual budget of € 35 Mio. and a headcount of 53 highly qualified experts.
Dr. Seipelt holds a PhD in biochemistry and lectures at the University of Applied Science.
